Eatin’ It Up

Although design is my life—at least writing about it—all things culinary are my favorite pastimes. I love to cook as much as I love to eat, and read cookbooks cover-to-cover like novels. What’s more, certain chefs are as much rock stars to me as musicians are to my hubby. (Any other Top Chef fans out there? Go Kevin Gillespe!)

Gettin Fresh in W. Seattle

...Fresh is tastefully understated and extremely welcoming. Clean lines, warm wood, user-friendly color palate...invitingly contemporary. There's a lovely little outside patio so we dined al fresco, which added to the perfection of the day. Pots full of herbs and flowers lined the patio's perimeter and subtle smells of thyme and similar fragrances treated our senses with each soft breeze.

Sometimes visiting a new restaurant is like a first date. You do a quick background check on the web, get all dolled up and feel the anticipation as the “big night” draws closer. You leap into it with an open mind and hope for a happy future together over many delicious meals. Last week I had a date with Bastille.

"....we didn't expect it to end like this" was word from the corporate offices regarding the closing of Seattle's Oceanaire restaurant. Well, I guess no one ever does. Expect unexpected endings, that is. Sad news for the local restaurant scene ...
