The Countdown is ON
By Heather Paper
Every year, when November comes up on the calendar, I go into sheer panic mode. After I chastise myself for (again) not starting my holiday shopping sooner, I start making a list of all the gifts I need to buy, wrap and ship.
But here’s the twist of irony: At the same time I’m scolding myself for not getting a better jump on things, I’m rewarding myself, too. You see, I’m of the opinion that nobody knows what I want more than I do. So, for every gift I purchase, I buy something for myself.
This year, I’m starting my holiday shopping at one of my favorite sites—Three Potato Four (http://www.threepotatofourshop.com/) where I can always count on finding great stuff. One-of-a-kind items run the gamut from vintage signs to antique life preservers, reconditioned typewriters and telephones from the ’40s and ’50s to cursive handwriting instruction charts. And there’s all manner of tabletop must-haves, decorative accessories, even toys and games the kiddies will love.
My first purchase? I think it will have to be the United States classroom pull-down chalkboard map. Who will I give that to? Me, of course. It will be perfect in my office!
