I’m usually three months to six years behind on my list of books to read, give or take a year. I’m not proud, just sharing my current reading habits. A stark contrast to my youth, because I was that girl who read while walking. Read while eating dinner. Read at any free moment she had (in the car, at recess, standing in line for the bus). All this to say these days I’m often not at the forefront of reading those hot-off-the-press new releases and I can work on one single title for months before finally finishing.

Fast forward to the last two-and-a-half days of my life. I decided it was high time I got on board with this Twilight phenomena (I’m not one who enjoys being out of the know for too long). I had low expectations of the actual storyline (because, come on, this is a story for teenage girls), but did expect to enjoy the ride.

I sit here now, a complete addict. I devoured the 500 page book in less than three days. A record for me (I’m a slow reader and I have ADD). Granted, it is an easy read (the teenage girl thing again) but lord almighty did I buy into it; hook, line, and hot-vampire-sinker. I’m giddy, anxious, preoccupied, and doing crazy 13-year-old-girl internet searches on people that aren’t real. I’m swooning over my fake, blood-sucking boyfriend…a character in a book. What’s wrong with me? I’d heard that I would enjoy being transported back to the first real crush I ever suffered in high school, but this is ridiculous, albeit very pleasant in an odd, sweetly nostalgic sort of way.

It’s silly, I realize, and I willingly let myself get way too involved. But why the heck wouldn’t you? How often do you get to feel so romanced (not sexed up like from a trashy novel) but really romanced with innocent, yet unforbidden love? The proverbial Heathcliff only comes around every twenty years or so, if we’re lucky. I like to understand why phenomenas happen. And let me just say I understand this one.
